Maker of the Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant programs recognizes educators across the country who make a significant, positive impact in students’ lives

Oakland, Calif. — Nov. 4, 2014 — This September and October, Scientific Learning Corp. honored 17 educators as 2014 Champions of Literacy in a new awards program designed to recognize educators for the tremendous impact they have had on students’ lives through the use of the Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant™ programs. As part of the awards program, an online contest was held to elect the first King or Queen of Literacy from among the 17 teachers, reading specialists, and school and district leaders chosen. Scientific Learning is pleased to announce that Linda Nash, supervisor of federal programs and grants for Putnam County Schools in Cookeville, Tenn., has captured that top honor.
Nash was selected as a Champion of Literacy because of the success of Putnam County Schools’ summer reading program, which uses the Fast ForWord program to help struggling third grade students achieve the gains necessary to be promoted to fourth grade. During the school year the program is used with equal success to help special education students, English language learners, and others overcome struggles with reading.

As the 2014 Queen of Literacy, Nash will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Scientific Learning’s National Circle of Learning (NCOL) Users Conference, Nov. 6-7 in Dallas, Texas.
