Oakland, Calif. — February 15, 2011 — Alan November, an international leader in education technology, will discuss how innovative tools are creating a new culture of empowered teaching and fearless learning when he addresses education leaders from across the Southeast later this month in Orlando. November’s thought-provoking keynote presentation, “Creating a New Culture of Teaching and Learning,” is part of a Brain Summit sponsored by Scientific Learning (NASDAQ:SCIL), makers of the Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant™ family of products.
At the Brain Summit, which will be held Feb. 17-18, November will describe how access to more timely information and communication tools can empower educators to focus on the individual learning needs of their students. The renowned speaker, author and educator will then explain how these same tools can create more collegiality, build stronger community relationships, and empower students to be more self-directed. November, who is a senior partner and founder of November Learning, is the author of the best-selling book “Empowering Students with Technology.”
Following November’s presentation, Dr. Martha Burns, an author and practicing speech and language pathologist for over 40 years, will lead a presentation on neuroscience in the classroom. Burns is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is an adjunct Associate Professor at Northwestern University.
Sherrelle Walker, chief education officer of Scientific Learning, will then conduct a presentation on the importance of brain fitness in education. Walker will demonstrate how schools can accelerate learning for all students by combining good teaching, good content, and exercises that stimulate the brain to build brain fitness and expand learning capacity. Attendees will learn how this approach can help districts meet Adequate Yearly Progress needs, strengthen Response to Intervention (RtI) programs, and improve instruction and student achievement by enhancing existing curriculum.
